Job Description


The General Manager shall provide leadership for all aspects of the company’s operations with an emphasis on long-term goals, growth, profit, and return on investment

REPORT TO :    BOARD OF DIRECTORS / GROUP CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy & Policy Development

  •  Lead the Management Team in the development of a vision and strategic plan to guide the Company for Board’s approval.
  • Lead in the development of strategic options and operational plans that incorporate the goals/objectives of the company to maximize shareholder value and position the Company for increase in return on investments.
  • Develop the legal framework and documentation on Service Agreements and Operating Principles for approval by the Board.
  • Initiate action for the review of existing policies and standards to reflect the changing needs of clients/customers in the Company’s operations.
  • Exemplify the Company’s culture, values, standards and reputation in order to inculcate the Company’s vision, values, strategy and philosophy among staff and clients.
  • Provide technical advice to the Board on strategic business development and key corporate planning issues that relate and impact the operations of the company.
  • Contribute to the development of the strategic business plan and budget, and monitor performance reviews in terms of production and service delivery
  • Develop and review procedural manuals for businesses processes to ensure compliance
  • Formulate and recommend operations, policies, procedures and strategies to ensure effective service delivery and attainment of business goals
  • Build and maintain an effective management team
  • Assume full accountability for the board for all company operations
  • Business Development Initiatives
  • Provide leadership and technical expertise in the conception and formulation of new business ideas into saleable services in line with the Company’s long-term vision and business strategy.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate approved business strategies/plan for new business initiatives and provide detailed financial models to examine value of income generating business model ideas in line with the Company’s overall strategy/plan.
  • Provide strategic direction in the management of the Company’s marketing and sales functions in pursuance of the Company’s business objectives.
  • Spearhead the marketing effort/functions of the Company to maintain a visible and active presence in the local and international market to enhance new business acquisition whilst supporting existing relationships.
  • Develop and implement new business processes to improve upon service delivery
  • Manage service providers/strategic alliances as agreed by the Group
  • Project Planning & Management
  • Provide technical advice and direct the development of project/service systems, procedures /guidelines, etc. for effective monitoring and evaluation of all the Divisions.
  • Oversee the planning, management and evaluation of the Company’s services/projects and monitor to ensure improvement in operational/service quality.
  • Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations and monitor their implementation to ensure strict adherence.
  • Responsible for determining the staffing requirements of the Company to ensure organizational effectiveness and prompt service delivery.
  • Manage resource allocation including staff to meet business requirement
  • Performance Monitoring & Evaluation
  • Develop and implement a performance management process/system for all staff as well as monitor performance on an on-going basis and conduct annual performance reviews.
  • Evaluate organizational performance against the annual budget and long-term strategy to assess the Company’s achievement to corporate goals.
  • Monitor to ensure that the Company conducts all of its business activities in compliance with legal, regulatory/company policy, controls and standards.
  • Monitor to ensure protection of the Company’s brand through compliance with legal agreements and service terms and conditions.
  • Identify and evaluate the risks to the Company’s operations, clients, staff, property, finances, goodwill and image and implement measures to control/manage risks across the service delivery chain for business continuity.
  • Monitor to ensure that all services meet customer specifications, budget and delivered on agreed time and quality while continually refining methods to increase client satisfaction.
  • Stakeholder Relations & Management
  • Establish and maintain professional relationship and liaise closely with clients, vendors, policy makers, government officials, MDAs and other business executives to explore business opportunities and advice Board as appropriate.
  • Forge/facilitate the development of strategic partnerships with potential business investors (local and international) for the Company’s businesses.
  • Financial Management
  • Direct the preparation of the annual operating budget for the Company and submit to the Board of Directors for approval.
  • Direct the Company’s operations to meet approved budget and other financial goals.
  • Direct short-term and long-range planning and budget development to support strategic business goals.
  • Monitor to ensure that the Company complies with all legislation covering taxation and withholding payments.
  • Coordinate all Internal and External audit programs in the Company and follow-up to ensure that audit queries are handled expeditiously.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversees the ongoing operations of all divisions in the company
  • Manages and directs the company toward its primary goals and objectives.
  • Oversees employment decisions at the executive level of the company.
  • Leads a team of executives to consider major decisions including acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, or large-scale expansion.
  • Promotes communication and cooperation among all functions to create a spirit of unity in the organization
  • Information & Reporting
  • Stay abreast with legislations, rules/regulations, international best practices in project/risk management, marketing operations, investment practices, etc. to facilitate the operations of the Company.
  • Review and analyze business plans, activities, benchmarks, operating targets and results through consultation with Senior Management Team to ensure that corporate objectives and targets are met.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCED

Education

  • MBA in Project Management, Entrepreneurship or related field.
  • Degree in Agriculture or a related subject such as: agricultural engineering, agronomy, crop management farm business management, horticulture, land/estate management.
  • Must have not less than 12 years of working experience, 5 of which must be in Senior Management level
  • Must be a member of a recognised professional body.
