Role Overview
We are looking for a VP of People & Culture that can become the soul of our people experience at AFG as we scale, reporting directly to the CEO. You are the right person for this role if you believe that HR Management is significantly more than administrative tasks; and that African companies can be top places to work. You will help continue our business success by delivering extraordinary people satisfaction and become the engine of innovating our culture in a 100% fully remote work environment with team members in different countries. You must be able to think strategically, execute tactfully, demonstrate strong judgement, and handle the most complex and sensitive issues. Your experience
- You are talented in translating an organization’s strategy into a scalable people environment in support of that strategy
- You possess strong business acumen with the ability to create and execute sound workplans as well as budgets
- You can practice calm and sound judgement under pressure and in support of the organization and our people
- You are a guard of quality and only deliver work that you are proud of
- You are a strong communicator, both in writing and verbally, who can build relationships with senior stakeholders at ease
- You have relevant experience supporting workforce footprints across geographies and worker types
- You are familiar with building remote and flexible work environments for staff across different generations
- You have accomplished a track record in building and running People programs at large and small companies
- You hold a bachelor’s degree from a leading African or foreign tertiary institution; a master’s degree is an added advantage
- You have a minimum of 10 years of experience across multiple People functions with at least 5 years in a Senior Leadership role in a growing company
- Start-up experience is a bonus
Your responsibilities
Strategy design & execution
- Lead the continuous development of AFG’s people strategy, aligning with overall organizational strategy and growth targets
- Build and administer a budget and people business plan throughout the organization
- Provide performance metrics on AFG’s people strategy to the Board, CEO and Executive Team
- Guide and manage team members across the organization in executing the strategy
- Oversee the translation of AFG’s human resources strategy into policies and guidelines
People brand development
- Evolve the AFG people brand on a continuous basis
- Lead the development and deployment of all people operations systems, processes and programs for effective and efficient global operations as the company scales
- Establish people metrics, analytics and reporting on critical human resource benchmarks and touchpoints
- Implement pathways throughout the company, collaborating with the talent team where necessary
- Set up frequent feedback loops, in person and virtually, to understand the people experience in AFG
- Build strong strategic partnerships externally to strengthen AFG’s employer brand
- Collaborate with communications team to position AFG as a top place to work to external stakeholders
Culture development
- Ideate, coin and execute team-building initiatives throughout the organization that strengthen bonding in person and remotely across core team and foresighters
- Develop a strong people communication culture that strengthens transparency
- Spearhead important change initiatives in the organization to drive buy-in across the entire company
- As a member of the Executive team, communicate a vision, build common understanding, align resources to accomplish key objectives, and work across all functional teams to build collaborative relationships
