Division / Department: Finance (FIN) / Financial Compliance & Reporting (FC&R)

Location: Corporate Office (Accra or Takoradi), Ghana (West Africa)

Report Directly to: Finance Compliance & Reporting (FC&R) Manager

Designation Level: Functional Head

OBJECTIVE: The Senior Compliance & Risk Associate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, managing tax-related risks, and supporting the development and enforcement of internal controls to safeguard the company’s financial integrity. Key responsibilities include identifying and mitigating tax risks while ensuring timely and accurate tax reporting and compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

COMPLIANCE & RISK

Tax Planning & Compliance:

  • Assist in the development and execution of tax planning strategies to optimize tax positions. Ensure full compliance with tax laws and regulations, including the preparation and timely filing of tax returns.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and advise on their impact to ensure the company remains compliant and takes advantage of any tax-saving opportunities.

Tax Risk Management:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate tax-related risks, including risks associated with tax reporting, filing, and compliance.
  • Implement strategies to minimize exposure to penalties, interest, or additional taxes through proactive tax planning and risk management.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of risk management strategies, recommending improvements as needed.

Internal Controls for Tax Compliance:

  • Support the development, documentation, and implementation of internal controls to ensure tax compliance and accuracy in tax and financial reporting.
  • Conduct periodic assessments of internal controls to ensure adherence to policies and identify opportunities for improvement.

Tax Reporting & Documentation:

  • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate tax reporting.
  • Review tax filings and other related financial reports to confirm compliance with tax regulations and corporate policies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Ensure the proper integration of tax considerations into business decisions and processes.
  • Provide guidance on tax compliance and risk management, advising on potential tax impacts and strategies for addressing them.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Supervise the team to execute assigned projects within deadlines and budget.
  • Develop and implement necessary measures to ensure flexible work practice and team building.
  • Carry out performance appraisals and development plans (including training) with subordinate staff.
  • Implement training and development program for staff in line with the organization’s technical and business needs.
  • Coordinate the rotational schedule (on and off duty) of subordinate staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting is mandatory.
  • Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Relevant professional certification (CFA, CPA) is a plus.
  • Multicultural experience is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in French is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience in a Big 4 or equivalent with a focus on tax advisory, planning, and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), with advanced Excel skills for tax data analysis and reporting.
  • In-depth knowledge of local tax laws and regulations, including corporate income tax, indirect taxes, and other relevant tax frameworks.
  • Experience with tax compliance processes, including the preparation, filing, and documentation of tax returns, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with tax reforms and regulatory changes, with the ability to assess their impact on the company’s tax positions.
  • Proficiency with financial software (e.g., SAP, Sage).
