Job Description
- To develop standards and policies and procedures to govern implementation, management and support for all Database systems in accordance with industry best practices
- To guide and oversee, prepare and assist with various database software implementation projects for the Bank to support the business functions, while ensuring 100% adherence to Technology’s project governance framework
- Provide 2nd level support for all database (Oracle, MSSQL & MySQL) related issues during End of Day and End of Month processes
- Report on key performance metrics for the database functional area and be responsible for ensuring adherence to service level agreements on end user issues.
- Troubleshoot problems and provides 24×7 on-call escalation for support of production and UAT databases.
- Monthly databases (Oracle, MSSQL & MySQL) housekeeping in the Cloud and On-prem.
- Participate in regular incident review meetings to ensure incidents are being resolved promptly in order to minimize service outages
- Database capacity planning on future storage requirements and database growth
- To guide and oversee, prepare and assist with various database software implementation projects for the Bank to support the business functions, while ensuring 100% adherence to Technology’s project governance framework
- To assist in other on-going projects in other functional units, from time to time, as directed by the unit or departmental head
- Interface with internal and external entities (such as other project teams, ITD units, user departments, external businesses, suppliers, vendors, etc.) with respect to projects, costs information, databases, software, hardware and other areas as required.
- Review and recommend emerging database technologies and Daily Monitoring of the health state of all production databases
- Database Performance review and optimization and Automate Database Backup on all production systems
- Proactive planning to ensure that sufficient space is available for data growth and that the average and peak utilization of Memory, Storage, Processor and tablespace Utilization falls within the Capacity Management thresholds
- Responsible for the support, monitoring and management of databases in all Ecobank Affiliates
- Responsible for implementation of all changes to production database and data warehouse systems from request for change or project initiation through to deployment and review.
- Maintain documentation of production databases and standard operating policies and procedures
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure timeliness in response and resolution of enquiries and complaints in accordance with agreed SLAs
- To ensure that all customers of Technology and their dependent stakeholders are well served and satisfied in the services delivered by Database Systems
- Ensure that all critical production systems are managed in accordance with best practices, and in accordance with the operational manual to avoid mistakes.
- To ensure that all Databases systems and related processes and procedures are adequately documented
- Provide weekly Incident and Database Growth reports by EOD on Friday
- Ensure the databases supporting the core Banking, transactional and non-transactional systems are available at all times. (24 x 7) except planned and approved downtime.
- Ensure that all weekly/monthly reports are prepared with 95% accuracy on the due dates
Key Performance Indicators
- Ensure a high visibility of all banks database infrastructure services
- Adherence to agreed OLAs and SLAs
- Develop and adopt the “we don’t go down” approach
- Assure 99.99% service uptime for database infrastructure services
- Time, People and Process management
- Compliance to all security and audit standards and controls
Education & Experience
- Minimum 6 years (Production) Oracle DBA, MSSQL and MySQL experience in Unix / Windows operating systems major responsibilities in a large/challenging database environment
- Experience in designing and implementing Oracle databases, including systems architect, project management implementation and tuning
- Experience supporting many different systems throughout the enterprise
- Extensive experience with Oracle databases (12c, 19c ), MSSQL and MySQL is a must
- Experience with Oracle partitioning, replication, RAC, ASM , Data guard and Flashback technology is preferred
- Hands-on experience providing backup and recovery for databases using Oracle RMAN integrated with third party backup solutions (VERITAS NetBackup solution, IBM TIVOLI).
- Working Knowledge of Clustering Solutions (VERITAS, IBM , MICROSOFT ) is a plus.
- Expert level understanding of SQL and Databases performance tuning
- Extensive SQL, PL/SQL and Unix shell scripting is a must
- Experience with SQL Server, MySQL and Informix database is desirable
- Proven knowledge of Service Management with ITIL.
- Experience with Web and Application Servers is required
- High level of proficiency in documentation and report writing of technical and other information, with MS Office Suite and Visio
- Excellent oral and presentation-based communication.
- Expert level /Advanced Unix Administration skills (Specifically on Solaris, AIX, and Linux)
- Proven experience in monitoring, supporting and managing complex systems.
- Understanding of clustering and other high availability/fault tolerance
