SITE: Tarkwa Mine

Position Summary:

The Engineering – Project Department of Tarkwa Gold Mine is seeking to employ an experienced and self-motivated team player to fill the position of Health and Safety Officer – Engineering Projects on a Two -Year Fixed Term Contract through a Third-Party Contractor.

Reporting to the Unit Manager – Safety, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and ensuring full implementation of Gold Fields business partner framework on all projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure full implementation of Gold Fields leadership routines: Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) (Leadership Interaction, Coached Leadership Interaction, Risk Containment Walks, Planned Task Observations and Critical Control Verifications) on all projects
• Ensure all leadership routines are effectively conducted and logged in INX timely
• Conduct regular safety inspections, critical control verifications and audits at all project sites and ensure corrective actions for deviations
• Ensure all infrastructure project contractors comply with the health and safety conditions stipulated in their contracts, TGM health, safety and environmental procedures including applicable regulatory requirements
• Coordinates the health and safety activities of all contractors, guaranteeing employees, all relevant stakeholders and equipment safety
• Compilation of statistics, hazard identification and risk assessment reports and audits
• Analyze and evaluate opportunities to improve HSE activities to construction projects
• Train other safety representatives of sub-contractors on best health and safety practices
• Assist in developing processes and procedures in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001: on the project
• Assist in incident or accident investigations and close outs
• Ensure that assigned workplace units meet their statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to occupational health and safety, including statutory training and reporting

Key Requirements:

• Tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety Management or Engineering related from a recognized institution
• Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant work experience in a major mining and construction projects environment
• Must possess Senior Health, Safety and Environment Officer Certificate of Competency from the Inspectorate Division of Minerals Commission, Ghana
• Thorough knowledge in ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015 and HSE data management system (e.g. INX InControl, Isometric etc.)
• Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple projects and programs
• Sound verbal and written communication skills with strong data analysis skills and reports
• Knowledge in the application of industry regulations and standards
• Medical fitness for the position and environment
• Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• A valid Ghanaian driver’s license and knowledge in 4×4 when driving light vehicles
