Job Description


The Research Officer (Fundraising and Grants Management) is a key staff member within the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) Secretariat. responsible for proposal development, grants management, and fundraising. The Research Officer (Fundraising and Grants Management) reports to the Executive Secretary and works closely with Programme Officers in the various departments and units of the Academy.

The candidate for this position must have a professional understanding of the overall process of developing research proposals. managing grants, writing reports, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

Proposal Development

  • identities. researches and develops programs and proposals for funding
  • Organizes and coordinates proposal writing teams to respond to grant opportunities
  • Prepare grant and contract budgets
  • Works closely with Principal Investigators in researching, drafting, and finalizing grant proposals
  • Reviews and submits proposals to sponsor, ensuring accuracy and compliance with sponsor requirements and guidelines

Grants Management

  • Ensures that overall performance activities, related documentation, and reporting comply with grant requirements
  • Works closely with Principal Investigators to ensure budgets are spent according to grant contracts and GAAS regulations
  • Tracks and communicates progress of funded grants and contracts to the Executive Secretary and GAAS Council
  • Monitors the need for contract amendments or modifications with funding agencies
  • Reviews and submits in timely fashion progress reports to funding agencies

Fundraising

  • Initiates. develop and coordinates fundraising to secure gifts, grants, and donations to support GAAS programs and activities
  • Establishes and maintains networking contacts with potential and emerging donors and funding organizations
  • Coordinates and facilitates effective interactions between GAAS and top Executives of funding organizations
  • Compiles or develops materials to submit to donors and funding organizations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Establish exemplary relationships with personnel in all departments
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the Executive Secretary

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • A good first degree in the Sciences or the Humanities
  • Masters degree in Economics, Project Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related disciplines
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines
  • Ability to research grants and gather information using internet and search engine tools
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Microsoft Office software skills
  • At least three years of demonstrated work experience in fundraising and grants management
  • Must provide a professional portfolio demonstrating success as principal writer or manager of funded grants or contracts if selected for an interview
