Job Description

Key accountabilities

People Management Time Split: 45%

  • Build, develop and motivate a high performing and team committed to achieving success through each other.
  • Ensure that your team members are developed to achieve their maximum potential whilst coaching them to build their awareness of their strengths/development needs.
  • Assist in recruiting to fill people gaps.
  • Manage daily attendance levels within the Region.
  • Manage poor performance and escalate disciplinary/grievances issues professionally and promptly in line with agreed procedures.
  • In conjunction with the Director Personal Banking, agree challenging performance objectives and measures for your team providing regular feedback on honest assessment and achievement.
  • In the way you lead on a daily basis, be a role model for your people, do things wholeheartedly, communicating with passion and enthusiasm embracing change as a way of working.
  • Creating an empowering environment for your people encouraging individual ownership, initiative, and challenge of the status quo
  • Manage the performance of Managed Services Staff
  • Ensure that team members receive coaching and feedback in order to develop to achieve their maximum potential.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback on new initiatives etc.
  • Discuss and finalise Performance Development Plans and ratings for all members of staff.
  • Determine and manage Training Needs Analysis by summarizing needs identified during the quarterly Performance Development process and liaising with the HRBP and Head of Talent.
  • Draft succession plans for all team members and update them at least annually.
  • Identify talents in the team and ensure that additional development opportunities are created for high performing colleagues.
  • Ensuring exit interviews for all employee-initiated departures from the bank are conducted in a timely manner and flagging up any issues.
  • Ensure Line Managers manage staff attendance levels, including approval of leave. Compile monthly absence statistics (annual leave, sick leave, family responsibility leave, maternity leave, study leave etc), and submit to HR for record keeping.
  • Directly responsible for discipline for members of own team
  • Motivate staff and ensure they are recognised through the Absa recognition schemes.
  • Create an empowering environment for team members, encouraging individual ownership and initiative.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing numbers and capability to provide efficient and effective service within the team.
  • Manage the development of staff through Performance Management and offering learning opportunities within the department.
  • Understand the strategic direction of Absa Africa RBB, ensure alignment to customer demand, and create competitor advantage.
  • Provide clear direction of the Sales and Service business objectives translating and prioritizing into business performance measures.
  • Champion the cultural change needed to reinforce consistent Sales, Customer Service and operational rigour disciplines and ways of working across the channels.
  • Create sense of urgency and excitement around the Vision and values and ensure individuals actions, processes and practices are aligned.
  • Create inclusion and involvement in both Retail and Business Banking initiatives and areas of focus.
  • Provide leadership to colleagues in Retail, SME and Commercial within the region.
  • Active participation and ownership of communications, products and services from all r arms of RBB

Operational Control Time Split: 10%

  • Achieve operational rigour excellence in all aspects of procedures and processes undertaken to ensure a satisfactory audit.
  • Ensure compliance with operational risk & rigour requirements e.g., Health and Safety standards, security of premises etc. in respective area.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation e.g., KYC, banking code service standards, fraud prevention and money laundering procedures.
  • Raise reports on all risk events that occur

Key accountabilities

  • Understand the appropriate Group and ARO Policies & Standards applicable to role.
  • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) which are faced in the role thereby contributing to the adherence to the Group Risk and Control Framework.
  • Ensure that practices and controls required by Policies are communicated to all relevant colleagues.
  • Ensure that independent oversight, on a proactive basis takes place of the risk performance (including related control effectiveness) Principal Risks.
  • Maintaining procedures to monitor compliance with Policies and any controls required by them.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Group process for applications for waivers and dispensations and the notification of breaches of Policies as appropriate
  • Operational rigor and Counter management: achieve audit and assurance targets, counter targets, sundry loss targets, etc.

Driving Business Direction Time Split: 25%

  • Understand, own, and bring to life, Absa Bank Ghana RBB mission, brand and strategy.
  • Develop strategy/policy and ensure the achievement of the Absa Africa Strategic Priorities.
  • Ownership of all “RBB owned” support functions, managing each function as one team within headcount and budget. RBB support functions include:
  • Channel management: working with the RBB Regional Managers to support, devise and maintain an effective network plan covering premises, ATMs etc. in line with strategy, and operating at optimal costs and to acceptable standards.
  • Operational Rigor and Counter management: achieve audit and assurance targets, counter targets, sundry loss targets, etc.
  • People Development: support and guide the People Development to deliver the right number of people with the right skills at the right cost to achieve the business targets.
  • Performance Analysis & Planning: support and guide the Performance Analysis & Planning Manager to deliver timely, consistent, and accurate MI across the RBB business, and manage the RBB planning process.
  • Communications: ultimately managing the business partner relationship with Internal Communications to ensure the right messages are received by the right audience at the right time.
  • Take ultimate accountability for the management of Sales/Service support and business development services. These include sales conferences, national promotional events, sales recognition schemes.
  • To develop a network of exemplary internal and external suppliers in the context of delivery of sales and service support agreeing terms and SLAs on behalf of the business.
  • Work with other functions and business areas to facilitate and co-ordinate Sales and Service communication through a range of media (e.g., face to face, intranet).
  • Lead and Sponsor RBB Change Initiatives ensuring minimum disruption and ensuring Benefits are realized.
  • Visit RBB customers (Retail, Commercial, SME) within the region periodically and jointly with RM’s and segment heads.

Key accountabilities

Teamwork Time Split: 15%

  • Embed a “one team” culture with back-office staff recognizing that they are also key contributors to achieving the business result.
  • Work together with the Director Personal Banking, RBB Regional Managers and other RBB Heads as one team.
  • Business as Usual activities across the RBB business.
  • Provide clear direction on the RBB business objectives working with Regional Managers to translate and prioritize business objectives.

  • Act as a key interface with senior stakeholders within Absa Africa, understand their business needs and facilitate feedback mechanism from the business management: working with the RBB and Absa senior management to support, devise and maintain an effective network plan covering premises, ATMs etc. in line with strategy, and operating at optimal costs and to acceptable standards.
  • Performance Analysis & Planning: support and guide the Finance Team to deliver timely, consistent and accurate MI across the RBB and Absa business and manage the RBB and Absa planning process.
  • Provide clear direction on the RBB and Absa business objectives working with the RBB and Absa senior management to translate and prioritize business objectives.
  • Work with the MD, RBB and Absa senior management to manage the process of agreeing strategy/targets and translating these into business objectives that will enable the delivery of Sales and Service in Ghana.
  • Shape the segment propositions and marketing to support performance growth.
  • Act as a key interface with senior stakeholders within Absa, understand their business needs and facilitate feedback mechanism from the business.
  • Take ultimate accountability for the management of Sales/Service support and business development services. These include sales conferences, national promotional events, sales recognition schemes.
  • To develop a network of exemplary internal and external suppliers in the context of delivery of sales and service support agreeing terms and SLAs on behalf of the business.
  • Lead and Sponsor RBB and Absa project initiatives ensuring minimum disruption and ensuring Benefits are realized.
  • Embed the RBB at scale approach and drive synergies between Personal, Commercial and SME.

Self-Time Split: 5%

  • Agree performance development objectives with the team leader.
  • Pursue self-development to increase personal effectiveness, acknowledging strengths and areas for development. Conduct regular branch visits to assess operations, customer service, and adherence to operational standards.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers, community organizations, and local business partners to enhance the district’s reputation and presence.

Responsible for direct oversight of sales and service activities of Business Banking Group (BBG) Relationship Managers (RMs) throughout a specified geographic region

Responsible for the aggregated revenue and balance sheet growth of the SME banking portfolio in the region. responsible for the overall leadership and effective growth of branches under their regions.

Role/Person specification

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key RBB customers, organizations, to enhance the Bank’s reputation and presence.
  • Responsible for direct oversight of sales and service activities of Retail and Business Banking team ensuring excellent execution of assigned deliverables.
  • Responsible for the aggregated revenue and balance sheet growth of both branches and the SME banking portfolios in the region.

Education And Experience Required.

  • Graduate caliber with about 10 years’ experience in business management.
  • Experience of managing teams.
  • Proven knowledge of Ghana Consumer Market.

Knowledge and skills: (Maximum of 6)

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of modern trends of consumer banking with emphasis on digital and AI based solutions.
  • In-depth understanding of full range of RBB and Absa services, Local Business and an overview of Corporate.
  • In-depth understanding of Absa Ghana strategy, operating structure and interfaces with other functions.
  • Good understanding of RBB and Absa risk policy.
  • Understanding of RBB and Absa business processes and an overview of other associated processes.
  • Understanding of technical support systems for RBB and Absa.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of competitor and local market activity.
