Your Impact

  • To manage a portfolio of major studies within the region, ensuring alignment with project and business objectives and providing comprehensive analysis and effective decision-making to support successful project execution and regional growth.

As Part Of Our Team You Will

  • Lead two to three studies that are Major of higher complexity or a single mega study with asset timespans of over 20 years.
  • Deliver study activities in line with Newmont’s Project Delivery Framework, ensuring alignment with the study charter, scope and objectives for studies from Stage 0 (Conceptual) to Stage 2B (Pre-Feasibility).
  • Define and manage study scopes, schedules, and budgets for studies within their portfolio.
  • Gather and assess data from various sources, including field studies, technical reports, and partner inputs.
  • Collaborate with team members at site, region and corporate levels, including geologists, engineers, environmental and social performance guides, and external consultants, to analyze results and recommendations.
  • Develop detailed study plans and schedules, ensuring timely completion of milestones and deliverables.
  • Manage options trade-offs to develop recommended path for the project.
  • Generate and deliver comprehensive study reports and recommendations to the Director, Studies Africa Asia Pacific.
  • Verify and maintain compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and standard methodologies.
  • Through effective engagement with the Business Unit Health, Safety, and Environment as well as External Relations and Social Performance functional support teams, deliver effective study permitting and stakeholder engagement strategies that are aligned with the site’s strategy.

You Will Also

  • Drive and actively participate in the social engagement for their studies to comply with Environmental Impact Study (EIS) requirements.
  • Manage Newmont interfaces with vendors and site during the projects or studies.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key site, business unit, corporate and community stakeholders. Must be able to work in a collaborative environment and seek/share best practices across Newmont.
  • Oversee and track the progress of studies within their portfolio, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met on time and within budget, and provide regular updates to the Director, Studies Africa Asia Pacific.
  • Facilitate the transition of projects from study phases to execution phases, ensuring smooth handover and continuity.
  • Responsible for identifying relevant project risks, applying mitigation measures, and continuously assessing for risks.
  • Strong study leadership, interpersonal, and influencing skills are essential.

Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Formal education university level qualifications in Project Management, Geoscience, Engineering, or related fields is a pre-requisite for this role along with demonstrated industry experience in leading complex major studies.
  • At least 10 years of work practice, with at least 2 years of that time with projects/studies, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.

Additional Knowledge

  • Strong skills in project management, study management, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Essential soft skills for leadership, managing multidisciplinary teams, and support functions, including data analysis and report preparation.

Experience

  • Managing three or more complex evaluations simultaneously.
  • Working effectively within diverse cultural and multidisciplinary environments.
  • Collaborating with contracted and functional support technical experts in local and corporate technical teams in global settings.
  • Contributing to and managing large scale projects or studies across a wide variety of domains, each with distinct financial and risk profiles.

Problem Solving Ability

  • Discerning trends to develop and refine study processes and develop new processes within a single knowledge field.
  • Recognizing the interconnections of significant data from a flow of real events within a single system (knowledge field or discipline).
  • Thinking about alternative means to achieve a goal by forming if this, then that; if that, then the other chains of hypothetical activities.

Technical And Professional Skills

    • Geology, metallurgy/process, mine engineering, geostatistical modeling, operations, projects, IT, tax, treasury, financials, environmental, social, political, land, legal, HR, supply chain, security.

  • Utilization of appropriate tools and processes to achieve defined business outcomes.
  • Communicating complex information verbally, in presentations, and in written reports.

Project and Study Management

  • Justifying, budgeting, executing, and managing large complex studies.
  • Overseeing independent study teams and contracted technical experts.
  • Managing projects with varying financial drivers, risks, and project costs (up to $1B).
  • Familiarity with risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance.

  • Advanced written communication and interpersonal skills.
