Job Description
AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as MANAGER: SECURITY SERVICES (GHANA & TANZANIA BUSINESS UNIT).
ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT
The core purpose of this role is to proactively identify, analyze and interpret risk, and provide appropriate advice and support to the Ghana and Tanzania Business Units Security function, to mitigate security and human rights risks, through the appropriate utilization of robust security risk management systems and processes, to protect people and assets.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Establish a culture of safety for subordinates and ensure that work processes are free from safety and health hazards and that subordinates are properly trained to ensure safety.
- Demonstrate an understanding of business model, structure and knowledge of the roles and accountabilities of collateral and cross functional team members.
- Demonstrate knowledge and techniques to execute projects effectively and efficiently.
- Plan, organize, allocate resources, execute, monitor/control work/procurement and contracts to ensure fiscal stability, according to Project Management best practices.
- Conduct & facilitate structured meetings/workshops effectively to achieve functional/ departmental/organizational outcomes.
- Manage / provide oversight for project(s) and or establish a set of tasks / activities associated with an intended outcome and timeline and all related activities in that project including quality assurance, environmental risks and safety.
- Contribute to the identification, analysing and interpreting of security and sustainability risks within the BU and contribute to the embedding of risk mitigation measures, to adequately mitigate risk and to prevent and reduce harm to people and loss of the organization’s assets.
- Contribute to the development of processes to ensure the successful implementation of the Security framework requirements and associated processes in the BU, to comply with Group and BU strategies.
- Establish appropriate compliance processes, which will ensure performance can be measured and drive continuous improvement.
- Maintain an effective network of contacts internally and externally, to analyse and influence the optimisation of BU security practices.
- Identify, develop and provide solutions for existing and new risk management requirements that conform to AGA standards.
- Conduct high-level investigations as required.
- Demonstrate the knowledge & application of ethical conduct and compliance with corporate governance, principles and social responsibility.
- Ensure standards are implemented, in support of negating security challenges and associated risk and assess compliance to identify gaps.
- Contribute to establishing a sustainable process to implement appropriate systems and tools that will assist in identifying, assessing and ranking Security risk, as these relate to the Ghana and Tanzania Business Unit, in order to promote a security and risk-aware culture, ensure that any potential impact is understood, and systems are in place to facilitate effective decision making and security risk mitigation.
- Provide specialist counsel to the Business Units and Operational Managers as and when appropriate, to supplement and secure their understanding of the impact and consequences of various security risks.
- Advise and support Senior Management in the BU, as appropriate, to reduce risk, respond to incidents and limit exposure to liability, in order to reduce financial loss and reputational damage to the company.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of good financial management practices including principles of budgeting and financial management
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification
-
Recognized tertiary qualification in Management, Security and/or Risk Management; ASIS CPP and/or Project Management advantageous
Experience
- 5-10 years in the mining industry and/or associated business fields in a Security risk specialization environment, and 3-5 years in an operational leadership / management / senior supervisory capacity.
- Familiarity and proven compliance with regulatory and legal requirements that govern the security compliance in industry.
- Experience in mitigating risk and lawful application of all investigative tools, and methods to deal with high level complex investigations.
- Knowledge of the UNGP’s and VPSHR
