Job Summary
The role of Manager – API & New Business is designed for a self-driven tech savvy individual with deep understanding of platform management from a technology perspective. Has understanding and experience in Industry 4.0. The responsibilities include orchestrating a variety of stakeholders in accordance with MML platform and API business model to achieve the shared vision and goals.
The Manager API & New Business role is responsible for managing external developer communities and overseeing API roadmap execution – releases, configurations, usage and performance tracking within the OpCo. The role supports the Senior Manager to manage new business verticals like Digital Currency, Digital Banking, Open Banking and other future opportunities. It manages Fintech innovation from MML partners including – MNOs Fintech, FSPs, Governments etc., and any other disruptive innovation. Supporting value co-creation, revenue generation, building robust partnerships and keeping customer experience top of mind in all product design is one of the key focus areas for the role.

Job Role
- Explore opportunities in future payments and other technologies in new areas such as digital currency, digital banking, open banking and other future trends in the Fintech space.
- Explore digital currencies like stablecoins, cryptocurrency, bitcoins, blockchain especially cross boarder payments and Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) like the India Digital Rupee, and other countries currently experimenting like Bahama, Nigeria, Jamaica as well as digital payment systems that support digital currency like the Unified Payment Systems (UPI).
- In collaboration with the line manager, the role also supports constant investigations into opportunities in open banking from the perspective of banks, innovators and users and how MML could leverage on its API strategy and customer data to harness open banking and support the concept responsible for our mutual benefits.
- The role also assists in identifying opportunities, developing and seizing prospects in digital banking including online banking in collaboration with FSP partners as well as leveraging on wallet payments platform.
- Provide inputs and support the development and implementation of Fintech API strategy, in line with Group and OPCO API strategy, and lead its implementation.
- Provide feedback to Group on future API enhancements and OpCo-related requests as well as provide and organize developer community support.
- Conduct detailed analysis and manage external engagements with developer communities including consolidating developer feedback to ensure API roadmap takes into consideration developer challenges and opportunities to drive stickiness for Open API.
- Plan and prepare business sessions with Fintech partners in collaboration with the Commercial Team and other stakeholders – identify key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions.
- Provide reports in accordance with the measurement metrics set by Line Manager, review and provide feedback metrics relating to performance of the API product such as usage and revenue, activity, among others.
- Build strong sustainable relationships with all partners – Fintechs, banks/insurance companies and 3rd party service providers to ensure transparency, clear delivery processes and to build trust in the partnerships.
- Liaise with all stakeholders internally and externally to constantly improve the partner onboarding experience and design innovative ways to improve processes and add value in the delivery value chain.
- Support end-to-end advance services solutions – ideation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all new products/services.
- Support line manager on negotiations, closing deals, and managing partners including Group Fintech to leverage of existing MTN wide network for maximum impact.
- Other tasks and duties, as assigned.
Education
- Minimum of a degree in Business Administration/ Management, Computer Science Business Science (or related)
- A Masters/MBA is an added advantage
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in a similar position with at least 3 years in managerial role.
- Experience in Fintech, banking or financial services is mandatory.
- Successful track record as a senior management professional in delivering exceptional Fintech products, business growth & financial results.
- Experience working in a global/multinational enterprise with a good understanding emerging market.
