About Rainforest Builder
Rainforest Builder is Africa’s leading forest restoration company, on a mission to restore one million hectares of degraded land to natural tropical forest. Our team combines top global scientists and foresters into one integrated company specialized in large-scale tropical forest restoration. We have well-established partnerships with many of the world’s largest companies to support them in meeting their decarbonization goals.
Our operations today focus on the restoration of Africa’s most degraded rainforest landscape, the Upper Guinean Forest, where we have two existing projects and a growing high-quality pipeline for further expansion. Each project is large-scale (100,000 hectares+) and long-term (71+ years), with additional measures taken to ensure permanence long after we are gone. We directly undertake all stages of each project’s lifecycle, including origination, carbon asset development, forestry operations, monitoring, and analytics. Working closely with communities, our 2,000-strong team therefore provides our partners with complete assurance on the quality and transparency of our operations.
Your Role
We are seeking a dedicated, full-time Forester with expertise in managing forestry plantation field, security and fire protection operations. The Forester will play an essential role in supporting the Senior Forester by planning of work orders, supervision and inspection of field activities like land preparation, marking and pitting, pre-plant spraying, planting, fertilizer application and maintenance among others, field data collection, reporting and analysis, training of workers, boundary demarcation, roads improvements as well as fire and encroachment prevention. This position requires a high level of commitment, hard work, and someone who is detail oriented and results driven.
Your Responsibilities
- Work Order Planning: Plan daily, weekly and monthly activities of each team you manage
- Supervision and Inspection: Supervise and inspect daily activities to ensure it meet quality and task standards in the relevant SOPs
- Field Data Collection, Reporting and Analysis: Collect field operational data and create daily, weekly and monthly reports as well as analyse for decision making.
- Training of workers: Train workers on all company policies, health and safety policies as well as Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs)
- Marking of Worksheets: Do worksheets for your teams based on attendance and outputs for payroll
- Workers Transport Management: Manage assigned workers transport to make sure workers get to work on time daily without any disruptions
- New Workers Recruitment and Documentation for Registration: Recruit able workers from our communities and prepare needed documentation for HR for registration.
- Quality Control of Activities: Ensure activities performed by both workers and contractors meet the quality standards required.
- Boundary demarcation establishment and maintenance: Ensure boundaries of all your compartments are weeded clean and maintained.
- Fire and Encroachment Prevention: Ensure no illegal farming, logging, and mining takes place in your assigned compartments by regular monitoring and reporting any illegal activities.
- Road Opening and Maintenance: Ensure roads that need to be open and maintained are done to improve access for workers, officers, and visitors.
Requirements
- Relevant tertiary education qualification
- A first degree in Forestry or Natural Resources Management will be Advantageous
- Experience in managing forestry plantation field, security, and fire protection operations
- A strong character able to effectively supervise people to get work done
- Ability to generate plans and execute them accordingly
- Absolute integrity, honesty and reliability
- Comfortable to live and work in very remote areas
- Good in writing daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly operational reports
- Willingness to learn new forestry techniques
- Good communicator at all levels
- A motorcycle driver’s license is a prerequisite
- Good computer skills
