Job Description
GGBL operates from two sites in four drinks categories: Stout, Lager, RTD and Malt as well as the distribution of Spirits. The business is the largest of the brewing businesses in Ghana holding circa 75% market share.
Growth in the Ghana economy is expected to continue at mid to high single digit in a driven environment.
Consumers and customers in this region expect products of the highest quality. There is also growing middle classes who are likely to experiment with new products.
GGBL is undertaking significant change process, principally in the areas of accountability, quality maintenance practices, supply planning, cost reduction and efficiency. In line with its objectives GGBL will develop its people and build an environment that attracts and retains the best people.
As the Supply function we will produce quality products in a safe environment at driven costs, on time and in full with no errors.
The Fermentation Operator is ideally an individual with a lot of brewing experience. The incumbent’s Process Area is the central processing point in the Brewing of Beer, covering yeast management, wort fermentation, Beer centrifugation/ yeast separation and Beer Maturation. The process Operator carries out all these processes and reports to the Shift Brewer.
He Liaises with Brewhouse, filter room and utility staff to ensure the continuous supply of filterable beer to packaging lines.
The Filter /Centrifuge Operator is also responsible for his own safety and the safety of the casuals. He participates in continuous improvement initiatives such as PIPs, efficient initiatives in the department. The role holder ensures adequate coverage of shift, showing absolute support for colleagues as well as good team spirit.
Principal Accountabilities
- Contribute to Occupational Health and Safety standards. Frequently state and articulate that Safety is our No.1 priority. Be transparent as an ambassador for safety by behaving in a safe manner at all times and always challenging unsafe practices and behaviour of others, reprimanding where appropriate. Enforce strictly to the site safety rules and systems and equipment operational procedures.
- Manage the effective feeding of Fresh Yeast cultures in accordance with laid down company procedure.
- Supervise and control fermentation process/performance.
Carry out process vessels Beer mains CIP and ensure an infection index of
- Carry out gulen Beer centrifugations/yeast separation. Control cost of operation by minimising process waste, while ensuring good house keeping/hygiene at all times.
Qualifications And Experience Required
- Holder of a post – Secondary qualification in a Science related course with proven experience in Food Industry /HND in Biological/Chemical Science
- Demonstrate detailed understanding of Permit to Work system and GGBL SHE policies, statutory requirements and responsibilities.
- Demonstrate understanding of teamwork principles, continuous improvement, preventative maintenance and problem solving.
- Response to change in a positive outlook across a range of situations/challenges
- Positive demeanor to own development and looks for opportunities to help others learn and develop.
Barriers to Success in Role
- Lack of personal flexibility to function in a tightly overseen manufacturing environment with volatile production and sales demand.
- Poor inclination to pursue training and development on an individual and team basis or to share and apply new skills acquired.
- Inability to connect and build positive relationships.
- Lack of understanding of the commercial and Demand agenda within the business.
- Skill level inadequate to successfully operate and maintain both new and ageing assets and technology.
