Job Description

Purpose of Role:

The purpose of this position is to provide effective leadership and supervision regarding all activities, resources and processes to ensure seamless production optimization all the time.

Results / Accountabilities

  1. Promote a strategy of continuous improvement to EHS initiatives implementing an EHS culture which secures effective implementation of policies, procedure, responsibilities and continuous improvement
  2. Conduct and or coordinate EHS inspections and assessment on the shop floor to assure compliance and regulatory requirement, EHS initiatives and key performance indicators expectations, identify opportunities for improvement and provide recommendations based on findings
  3. Ensure that contractors, suppliers and consultants comply with relevant legislation and organisation safety practices are followed.
  4. Promote the prevention of accidents and reporting of near misses as a tool to meet objectives.
  5. Assist with organisation’s accident investigation process to ensure incidents are reported in a timely manner, root causes are identified and corrective actions are tracked through to closure
  6. Analyse incident records including personal injury, property damage, fires, percentage spills taking corrective action as appropriate.
  7. Support departments in the preparation of risk assessments and monitor the availability and appropriateness of risk assessments and where necessary, safe working practices.
  8. Respond to employees’ Safety and Health concerns;
  9. Assist the company’s Occupational Health & Safety Committees;
  10. Respond to fires and other emergencies
  11. Ensure the use of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE’s) by all workers, contractors and visitors.
  12. Ensure the environment is safe guarded and there are no environmental concerns or gaps.
  13. Ensure there is provision of amenities and good housekeeping needed to make the workplace safe
  14. Assume other duties as may be assigned.
  15. Perform safety inductions for contractors and visitors on site
  16. Verify safety is adhered to during plant Maintenance
  17. Perform safety checks before and after non – routine works are carried out
  18. Ensure firefighting equipment’s are in good condition and serviced periodically.
  19. Provide support for organization’s audit system (Internal & External) for both H&S/EMS and supervise implementation of corrective action findings to ensure compliance for continual improvement.
  20. Conduct training and induction for EMS & OH&S for new employees, contractors, and visitors.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Safety & Health, EH&S Management, Engineering or other related fields
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Safety, Health and Environmental role
  • Audit experience and knowledge/audit qualification in ISO 14001/ISO 45001 would be an added advantage
  • Experience in manufacturing industry would be an advantage

Preferred skills:

  • Ability to undertake health, safety and environment training and inspections.
  • Sound technical capabilities and understanding of processes, equipment and operations
  • Good safety and environmental regulatory understanding
  • Good problem solving and corrective action/ resolution skills
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills with IT skills.
  • Practical business acumen with high level of professionalism, team player, and display of integrity and honesty in all dealings is a must
