Programme Manager Higher Education Ghana
Role Purpose
This critical post is central to the successful delivery of our English and Schools Education projects in Ghana. You will drive our strategic objectives by building and maintaining strong relationships with key national partners. The position is part of our Cultural Engagement (CE) team, which delivers impactful programmes in Arts, Education, and English.
All project management roles operate within our global framework, which is funded by grants, partnerships, and clients. We pride ourselves on excellence, following a professional project management framework aligned with the highest UK government (Cabinet Office, FCDO) and industry (APM) standards.
Main Accountabilities But Not Limited To The Following
- Project Delivery
- Event and Travel Management
- Financial Administration and Compliance
- Procurement
- Monitoring, Evaluation and Communications
Essential Requirements
Role specific knowledge and experience:
- Foundation level Project Management qualification (in-house training or evidence of CPD in this area could be considered)
- Project Support & Coordination: Experience supporting the coordination of projects, including assisting with key tasks for project start-up, delivery, and closure.
- Compliance & Documentation: Familiarity with tracking and documenting project activities according to specific compliance requirements from different funding sources.
- Partner & Client Liaison: Experience in supporting relationships with clients and partners, including scheduling meetings, sharing information, and assisting with contract administration.
- Stakeholder Communication: Proven ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders to ensure smooth project operations.
- Task & Activity Coordination: Experience coordinating project activities and tasks, ensuring deliverables are tracked and deadlines are met under the guidance of a project manager.
- Risk & Issue Tracking: Ability to identify and flag potential project risks or issues to the project manager and experience in maintaining project documentation like risk registers.
- MEL Support: Familiarity with Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) concepts and experience in supporting data collection or reporting activities.
- Team Collaboration: Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with experience coordinating tasks among team members to achieve project goals.
Desirable
- Significant experience of managing projects/programmes
- Experience of managing dispersed teams.
Role Specific Skills
- Good understanding and experience of the Education sector in Ghana

- Pay Band: 4
- Contract Duration: Two (2) Year Fixed Term Contract
- Contract Type: This role is being offered as a locally engaged for Ghana. Locally Engaged – Candidates for this role must have a natural right to work in this location and would normally already be based in the location.

However, please note candidates must have a natural right to work in the country/territory, on a permanent basis, as immigration clearance and/or ongoing visa support is not provided by the British Council for this role.
