Job Description


You are joining the team driving the Cocoa Life program, a core element of our global sustainability strategy. Based on learnings from our first 10 years, we have now announced the next phase of Cocoa Life, backed up by a $600 million investment with the aim to increase the number of farming households reaching a living income, enhance child protection systems and access to quality education in Cocoa Life communities, and seek no deforestation on Cocoa Life farms globally. To be successful, we are now expanding our team and are looking for a Due Diligence Manager.How You Will ContributeReporting into our Cocoa Life Senior Director and working closely with our West African country leads and global experts, you will design and implement a framework to keep track of our human rights and environmental due diligence efforts in cocoa, with a focus on prevention, monitoring and remediation. As regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations evolve in consuming countries, you will also ensure we are set up to comply with upcoming EU regulations and the African Regional Standard. Main responsibilities will be

  • Support designing systems addressing regulatory requirements related to human rights and environmental due diligence
  • Work with West African Cocoa Life country leads to hold implementing partners accountable for delivery & reporting
  • Ensure alignment with global social and environmental sustainability strategies
  • Lead the integration of data collection and verification tasks for regulatory compliance

  • Corporate sustainability, either through work experience in a large international company or through consultancy experience with international companies on sustainable sourcing
  • Building, maintaining and influencing stakeholders

  • Educational achievements and business experience that demonstrate the intellectual capability needed to have credibility in the business
  • A self-starter who loves defining and delivering ambitious goals
  • Modelling trust, integrity and perseverance
  • Experience in sustainable sourcing, with expertise in agricultural raw materials, water stewardship, deforestation, human rights
  • Experience working in West Africa as well as internationally

More About This RoleWorking across all Cocoa Life teams, to implement and future-proof systems to meet evolving stakeholder expectations and regulatory requirements.What you need to know about this position:

  • You will partner with global subject matter leads to ensure alignment with MDLZ’s global Impact strategy and Cocoa Life’s vision to deliver impact for farmers and communities.
  • You will strengthen the integration and alignment of data collection and you manage 3rd party verification of the program’s key indicators.

What you need to know about this position:

  • The core purpose of the CLMRS and Compliance lead is to ensure a consistent and impactful approach to respond to child labor issues and other regulatory changes and demands.
  • The CLMRS and compliance lead works closely with Central Cocoa Life team as well as the implementing country teams, especially in West Africa, and globally
  • The role plays an important part in keeping Cocoa Life’s approach up-to-date and aligned with regulatory developments and response mechanisms to critical sustainability and human rights challenges.

Education / Certifications:

  • University degree
  • At least 10 years of work experience in Cocoa sector across West Africa
  • Problem solving, analytical and conceptual skills
  • You speak several languages English is a requirement; French is an advantage
  • Supply chain business acumen
  • Specific knowledge on human rights, forest protection and restoration, and farmer income

Job specific requirements:Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS)

  • Support implementation of CLMRS and assess implementation quality
  • Strengthen, and ensure robustness and comparability of data collection in CLMRS, with initial focus on West-Africa, and long-term global coverage
  • Ensure follow up and implementation of defined remediation activities
  • Cross country fertilization and alignment across implementing countries
  • Communicate and align findings and strategy with Global central team
  • Support CLMRS innovation and improvement

ARS

  • Be the global Mondelez focal point to engage on the ARS for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., government representatives, civil society, supply chain partners)
  • Support country leads and operations teams to develop a roadmap to adapt Cocoa Life supply chain
  • Update global Cocoa Life teams and other Mondelez stakeholders on latest development, opportunities and risks

Regulation/ due diligence efforts

  • Ensure required data collection and verification is in-place to substantiate regulatory compliance
  • Ensure alignment of data collection and verification for compliance with other systems such as monitoring/ evaluating progress and impact
  • Assess quality of local response to regulation, report findings, and plan for improvements
