The University of Ghana hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Director, Regional Institute for Population Studies, University of Ghana to take effect from 1st August 2025.

POSITION: Director, Regional Institute for Population Studies
REPORTING TO: Provost, College of Humanities
OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLEGE: The College of Humanities shall advance the objectives of each of its constituent Units and shall in particular:

a. develop world-class graduates to meet national and global developmental needs through quality teaching, learning and research;
b. create synergies for interdisciplinary teaching, learning and research in the Arts, Social Sciences, Business and Law;
c. create a congenial environment for memorable teaching, learning and research experiences for faculty and students;
d. enhance the research capabilities and output of faculty, students and other employees;
e. enhance the research capabilities and output of faculty, students and other employees;
f. establish and promote the internationalisation of the programmes and courses of study and instruction in the College;
g. enhance employee capacity through systematic staff development programmes;
h. develop effective processes for public engagement through extension services, policy development and advocacy; and
i. coordinate the mobilisation of resources for the College.

THE INSTITUTE

The Regional Institute for Population Studies is recognized as the leading center for research and training in population/health science in Africa, contributing to the well-being and health of African communities through collaborative work within the Institute and with local communities.

DUTIES

a. The Director is responsible for providing leadership to the Institute and for maintaining and promoting efficiency and good order in the Institute in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University
Act and Statutes, or as may be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the Institute’s Management Committee.
b. The Director is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the Institute are duly carried out by members of the Institute.
c. The Director is also responsible for the general administration of the Institute in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

The successful candidate must:

a. Be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.
b. Be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.
c. Provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity
to promote a collegial working environment in the Institute.
d. Demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.
e. Have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the Institute.

SALARY

Attractive with fringe benefits including market premium, rent, security and responsibility allowance.

TENURE

The Director must be able to hold office for a period of three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board, before reaching the statutory retirement age of 60 years, and may be eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years.
