Job Description

At the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, we work with political leaders around the world to drive change. We help governments turn bold ideas into reality so they can deliver for their people. We do it by advising on strategy, policy and delivery, unlocking the power of technology across all three. And by sharing what we learn on the ground, so everyone can benefit. We do it to build more open, inclusive and prosperous countries for people everywhere. We are a global team of nearly 800 changemakers, operating in more than 30 countries, across five continents. We are political strategists, policy experts, delivery practitioners, technology specialists and more. We speak more than 45 languages. We are working on over 100 projects, tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges. We’re all here at TBI to make a difference. In a world of ever more complex challenges, we believe diversity of background and perspective is a strength. We pride ourselves on a culture that values and nurtures difference. We are dedicated to unlocking potential, not only for the countries we work in but also for each of our team members. No matter where you’re from or who you are, if you’re passionate about the transformative power of progressive politics, we invite you to build a better future with us.Job Introduction
Alongside the Institute’s Advisory and Strategy and Partnerships divisions, the Policy and Politics division serves an important role for the Institute. Our policy and political professionals, based in London and around the globe lead TBI’s original research and thinking on the most important questions for leaders. The Policy and Politics division generates analysis that shapes public debate, enhances the work of client governments, and supports partnerships which improve people’s lives. Our work is global in nature, but we also develop individual national strategies, including our flagship Future of Britain programme. We believe there is an opportunity for progressives around the world to work together on a common agenda but it requires a concerted effort and coordination. This role is a unique opportunity to bring that to the Tony Blair Institute, putting the organisation at the centre of the global renewal of progressive politics and working with thinkers inside and outside to develop thought leadership and a new, future-facing agenda. It requires someone who is a self-starter with a readymade political network – ideally globally but at a minimum nationally. The role will be highly collaborative internally, knowing that a good idea can come from anywhere but that leadership is required to get to the right answers quickly. Collaboration also runs to outside the Institute, with a recognition that reinvigorating progressive politics means working with other organisations and not trying to ‘own’ this agenda.Get this right and we will no longer be outflanked by populists on the right and left who offer simple solutions to complex problems. We will find ourselves working with likeminded organisations around the world, sharing our analysis of the challenges we face but for the first time in a long while, uniting around ideas and best practice to confront them.Key Responsibilities
The holder of this position will:

  • Develop a strategy and plan for the global renewal of progressive politics working with ED, Politics
  • Support the ED, Politics and Executive Chairman in building and servicing a network of progressive parties and organisations
  • Coordinate activity with this network of progressive parties and organisations
  • Work with the Policy and Politics team to generate thought leadership and a progressive agenda that draws in progressive parties and organisations
  • Organise and run engagement activity globally, including a Future of Progressive Politics conference in the medium term
  • Take the Future of Britain programme and use this as a blueprint for a global progressive politics offer

Person Specification
The ideal candidate will:

  • Bring a ready-made political network to the table and be highly adept at building and servicing networks
  • Have thought about the future of progressive politics and will be ready to help drive the creation of a progressive agenda at the Institute

We welcome applicants who have an existing right to work in one of our office hubs in London, Accra, or Brussels from which you will be based.
