Job Summary
- Develop the Absa Ghana Commercial Banking strategy in alignment with overall country and ARO business vision and ambition.
- Lead the execution of the agreed Commercial Banking strategy to attain pre-eminent Commercial Banking Business status in the Ghanaian market as well among the Absa ARO subsidiaries.
- Lead the Commercial Banking coverage teams across the country and the product/proposition teams that serve both Commercial and SME
- Lead as part of the ARO RBB Business banking, Country Management Committee (Exco) and other leadership forums
Job Description
Accountability: Customer – 25%
- Develop and implement a clear, specific and appropriate client engagement model in Commercial Banking
- As chief coverage banker in Commercial, develop and grow profitable relationships with key Customers, Trade Associations, Regulators, Industry Bodies and other stakeholders.
- Drive and maintain through the Relationship managers and Product Teams high levels of customer relationship management, excellent customer service and value creation.
- Ensure, through Relationship managers, the retention of top clients, strong new client acquisition through the provision of appropriate customer solutions within risk and pricing parameters, that satisfy both the customers and the Bank’s needs
- Work with the CX function and other stakeholders to ensure customer needs are met and the Commercial Banking business achieves high and improving customer satisfaction ratings.
Accountability: Colleague – 25%
- Be a role model leader and colleague and play a senior role in the execution of the RBB and firm strategy
- Embed the Absa values and behaviours in the Commercial Banking business.
- Lead the Business Banking team locally to best in Class standards, attracting the best available talent, drive performance and consequence management using reward practices to distinguish and reward top performers.
- Together with the People Function Lead for Business Banking, determine the people management strategy for the business with a focus on talent management, development, resourcing and retention.
- Drive a culture of transformation and innovation within the Commercial Banking business by encouraging knowledge sharing and new ways of doing things.
- Embed formal Performance Development and informal coaching in the Team.
- Actively support Employee Opinion Survey (EOS) action items developed by the management team and review action logs to determine effectiveness of implementation.
Accountability: Company (Balance sheet & Financial Performance) – 30%
Company
- Accountable for delivering the economic profit performance of the Business Banking segment.
- Develop a business plan in partnership with all the Relationship managers with sector and product specialists that will bring about sustainable balance sheet growth and financial performance.
- Ensure all products are appropriately designed, meet customer expectations, appropriate priced to ensure that the firm achieves an equitable risk – reward across the portfolio of customers
Accountability: Governance & Control – 20%
- Responsible for running the Commercial Business within regulatory, Internal Absa policies and standards and manage reputational risk
- Evince appropriate Management Control Approach (MCA) and set a tone of adherence to governance and controls to the entire Commercial Banking Team.
- Ensure the Commercial Banking business always has a clean, satisfactory Control Environment (CE)
Education And Experience Required
- Bachelor’s and master’s degree
- Commercial or related qualification
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in Banking. Experience in Corporate, Commercial and SME segments would be an advantage.
- Proven experience and expertise in client management, People Management and credit risk
- Proven networks within the Business and Financial sectors of Ghana
Essential

- Outstanding knowledge of Business and Commercial banking products and services
- Sound knowledge of strategy and planning processes
- Product development knowledge and expertise
- Outstanding knowledge of control and governance requirements and environment
Preferred
- Knowledge of banking and financial environment in emerging markets
- Banking and Government systems in Africa and/or other emerging markets

Education
Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
