Job Description


Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill a vacancy in the post of Deputy Director of Public Engagement in the Parliamentary service of Ghana.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Deputy Director of Public Engagement shall provide support to the Clerk to Parliament and management of the service through the Director of Public engagement by performing the following duties:

• Facilitate engagements between Parliament and CSOs/think tanks on critical issues of national importance, by arranging meetings between the Speaker of Parliament, members of Parliament, Clerk to Parliament and committees of Parliament on the on hand and CSOs/think tanks on the other hand
• Establish and maintain a database of CSO/think-tanks operating in Ghana, classifying them according to the respective areas of work and aligning them with the various committee clusters of Parliament
• Facilitate information sharing between Parliament and CSO/think tanks. This involves sharing of approved parliamentary with CSOs/think tanks upon request. Research findings from CSOs and think tanks are also shared with MPs and committees to facilitate their work and respond to enquiries CSOs/think tanks have on issues before Parliament
• Facilitate capacity-building in the form of workshops and seminars for CSOs/thinks on the workings of Parliament and collaborative events between Parliament and CSOs
• Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of open government partnership and open Parliament initiatives
• Provide technical support to the open government partnership caucus in Parliament and the open Parliament steering committee as well as facilitate the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the open parliament action plan
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the clerk to Parliament

Qualification Required & Experience

• A good First Degree in Social Science, Humanities, Mass Communication, Public Relations, or any relevant subject from a recognized University with a minimum of 9 years relevant post-qualification experience plus a Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least 3 years experience on a grade analogous to assistant director I in a public service institution OR
• A good first degree and a master’s degree in social science, humanities, mass communication public relations or a relevant field from a relevant university with a minimum of 5 years relevant post-qualification experience and at least 3 years on a grade analogous to assistant director I in a public service institution.

Additional Consideration

• Persons servicing in public service institutions or state agencies are particularly encouraged to apply

Age Limit: Except when an applicant has been in the employment of a public service institution or state agency, the applicant should not be above 45 years of age on the date of appointment to the post.
