About This Role

This role will ensure the operability of the future Apensu UG and Recovery Enhancement through input and leadership of the Stage Gate Process, developing collaboration between Projects and Regional Business units, and providing the vision of a long term operational view.

You will be accountable to develop and lead the Operations project management effort. This will typically include the team responsible for process/metallurgy, geology, mine engineering, operations development, land, legal, IT, contracts, materials management, risk management, accounting mine maintenance, H&S, Emergency Response, Security, tax and assessment of the business case financials.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

Study Phase

  • Develop the Business Readiness Plans for the study phases to meet the Newmont Stage requirements. In the Future, hire, and lead the team responsible for S&ER, Operations, Business and HR in new project. Ensure all project activities are conducted within a Newmont H&S, S&ER, and Business culture and meet local regulatory requirements.
  • Support ongoing site activities from a Business and HR perspective so that project goals such as completing drilling programs are accomplished as planned.

Project Execution & Management

  • Successfully execute interim infrastructure or other programs necessary for project advancement and ensure the Stage Gate scope of work for S&ER, Business, HR and Operations is complete and also supports the future operability of the project.
  • Facilitate the appropriate participation in, support for and ownership of the project by the Regional Business Unit to ensure the future success of the project.

Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain positive community and government relations through open, honest and transparent interactions based on a good mutual understanding of Newmont’s and project stakeholder’s interests(global projects and region)
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure long term land tenure. Retain and develop an operations team who are available and ready for operations.

People Strategy

  • Provide leadership on overall project strategies as part of the project management team and provide continuity as the project progresses through stage Gate, construction and operations.

Your Training, Skills And Experience Checklist

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Minimum of an Engineering degree in a mining related discipline or a Business Management degree.

Experience

  • 15 years of experience in a mining environment with about 10 years of senior mine management experience with multi-functional, broad based management responsibilities is preferred.
  • International experience would be an asset.

Technical And Behavioral Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced level of software applications and tools for scheduling and cost management
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills (in English).
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • A flexible attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically; comfortable moving between strategic and tactical requirements of the role.
  • Ability to manage projects and team leadership skills required.
  • Proven ability to understand and be able to synthesize cross functional information from functions including geology, metallurgy/process, mine engineering, geostatistical modeling, operations, projects, information technology, tax, treasury, financials, environmental, social, political, land, legal, human resources, supply chain, security, and overall project management.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills appropriate for consultation and impact to all levels of management. The ability to present ideas clearly, facilitate discussions and reaches agreement or consensus on difficult issues.
  • Broad business knowledge and focus, ability to recognize issues, problems and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Ability to influence and drive change in the organization.
  • Ability to mentor, coach and direct workgroup by establishing stretch goals for development of staff and promotion of business growth within the region.
  • Ability to consult, listen, and provide superior input to the stage gate process.
  • Maturity to ensure coordination/collaboration at all levels and across all functions in the organization.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The position is located at Newmont Africa’s Ahafo South site.
  • Some working hours will be spent on the field and there may be limited office space and resources.
  • The position may be required to travel to other locations and project offices in Ghana and may also visit construction and mining sites.

The salary range offered for this role is $. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
