Job Description
Ghana Health Service invites applications from suitable and interested candidates, as per the detailed person specification indicated below: Biostatistician
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Analyse laboratory data from various sources (e.g surveillance systems, outbreak investigations, research studies) using appropriate statistical methods
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, summarizing key findings and statistical analyses
• Contribute to the design and analysis of public health studies conducted by the NPHRL
• Assist with the development of grant proposals that require statistical expertise
• Provide training and mentorship to staff of public health laboratories on statistical methods and software
• Monitor and evaluate the performance programs, analyzing data and reporting on progress towards objectives
• Collaborate with other public health professionals, epidemiologists and researchers on various projects
• Any other duties that will be assigned
Qualification Required & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics or related field
• Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, health information management or related field
• Minimum of 2 years experience as a Biostatistician in a public health setting is preferable
• Strong experience in data analysis using statistical software packages (e.g, stata, SAS, R etc)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working in Ghana or a similar developing country context is a strong asset
Competencies
• Develop and implement statistical analysis plans for NPHRL projects
• Analyse and interpret laboratory data to identify trends, patterns and associations
• Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing key findings for various audiences
• Contribute to scientific publications and research papers as required
• Contribute to the development of grant proposals that require statistical expertise
• Provide training and mentorship to NPHRL staff on statistical methods and software
• Collaborate with other public health professionals on research and program evaluation activities
• Stay up-to-date on the latest advances in biostatistics and public health
• Ability to work independently and a part of a team
