Job Description
Position Summary:
The Engineering Department of Tarkwa Gold Mine seeks to employ an experienced and outstanding individual to fill an Artisan III – Machinist position. The successful applicant will apply knowledge for operating machining tools to produce precision metal and plastic parts that meet precise specifications. Setting up and operating a wide variety of machine tool equipment, by maintaining a safe and friendly working environment, and liaising with other units within the department to improve the delivery of the section.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand the output specifications
- Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping
- Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines
- Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate production
- Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping
- Ensure compliance with the highest standards in terms of safety and Environmental Management
- Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines
- Select the appropriate machine and settings for a given task
- Carry out engineering projects as may be assigned by the Supervisor
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed
Key Requirements:
- A minimum of appropriate certification with apprenticeship experience or vocational training preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working with machine tools, mechanical assembly and as a machinist.
- Ability to lift up to 5kg of material and perform repetitive work.
- Proficient in basic mathematics, measurements, and engineering drawings
- Well-developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Demonstrable experience with fixed and mobile plant maintenance will be an advantage.
