REPORTING AND AUTHORITY

This position reports directly to the Head Driver for any/all work related activities – or his/her interim designee. This includes the duties and responsibilities that are as detailed in the job description below. There will be two drivers reporting directly to this position.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Objective: 

The Driver will be responsible to ensure safe and responsible driving of ALL office vehicles, properly maintain them, performing official errands, and assisting with other office services.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Routine maintenance and care of office vehicles including but not limited to minor routine repairs.
  • Drives office vehicles safely and chauffeur office staff, official visitors and guests to official destinations.
  • Respects and obeys at all times Ghana’s driving laws.
  • Takes careful note of all available information concerning street conditions,
    effective routes and destinations prior to embarking on travel.
  • Assists in the pick-up, transport and delivery of goods as required.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness. Regularly cleans inside and outside the office vehicle.  Wash car when it is required and advised.
  • Checks oil, water, brakes and clutch fluids on a daily basis, and tire pressure, battery water, and overall vehicle condition on a regular basis and at every 5000 km. Tests lights, brakes, bodywork for dents, etc.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of project vehicle documents, keep vehicle logbook updated on a daily basis and register each monthly check and maintenance/repair works required.
  • Calculates and estimates the petrol, oil, and lubricant (POL) use on a monthly basis for all vehicles.
  • Reports the need for maintenance and undertakes minor repairs.
  • Report any emergency or incidents immediately. Immediately reports any involvement of the project/office vehicle in any, even minor accidents, or any damage or theft of equipment from the vehicle.
  • When there is no outside driving activity, stands by in the office, support other colleagues on need basis, and undertakes other office work as assigned by supervisor.
  • Coordinates maintenance appointments for all vehicles with dealerships and other mechanics.

 

 

Common Duties:

  • Uphold the mission, values, and spirit of ASA in coordinating the program and in interacting with all community members.
  • Follow all ASA Codes of Conduct, including but not limited to the Sexual Abuse and Exploitation, Drug and Alcohol Policy and equal employment opportunity policy. Report any violations to appropriate ASA authority, and participate in preventative initiatives.
  • Follow all ASA organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to personnel, security, communications, finance, procurement, and logistics. Report any violations to appropriate ASA authority.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

DUTY STATION

Accra, Ghana

 

DURATION OFTHIS CONTRACT

This is an open, at will Agreement. There is no definitive ending date in this agreement. The revised Employment agreement will begin on March 1, 2016.

 

COMPENSATION AND ALLOWANCES

Base compensation: Your base compensation is GHC 1,300.00 (One thousand three hundred cedis) paid on a monthly basis.

 

Overtime for support staff: There may be occasions when overtime is required by support staff and/or drivers to meet certain work deadlines or when travelling.  The CoP must approve all overtime in advance.  Approved overtime worked will be compensated with equivalent time off. Time off in lieu shall be taken in consideration with the CoP as soon as possible after the overtime was worked, but in any case within 30 days.  Overtime is not carried forward.

 

Health Insurance: Contractor will be added to the local health insurance/life insurance policy for employee and immediate family (spouse and children) only.

 

Paid Vacation and Annual Leave: Employee is entitled to 15 working days of paid annual leave, after 12 months of continuous service.  The employee must have worked for at least 200 days in the particular year to fulfill the requirement for continuous service.

Employee is entitled to paid Festival (public and religious) holidays.  Festival holidays are announced by Ghanaian Government at the start of the calendar year (usually 13 in number).  Public holidays are regulated under the Public Holidays Law, 1989 and include: New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May Day, Africa Unity Day, Republic Day, Eid-il-Fitr, Farmer’s Day, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. If the public holiday falls on a non-working day, the next working day will be appointed as a public holiday.  ASA/WISHH will also grant the following US holidays: Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day and the 4th of July.

 

Sick Leave: Sick leave certified by a medical practitioner is independent of annual leave.

 

Employee Tax:

WISHH/ASA will deduct the Ghanaian and Social Security Tax from your compensation in accordance with Ghanaian tax law. These funds will be deducted from your compensation each month.
