Established in 1963, Operation Eyesight Universal (OEU) is  a not-for-profit international non-governmental organization funding blindness prevention programs and eye health services in the developing world. To date, OEU has treated more than 33 million people for potentially blinding conditions and provided more than 2 million sight restoring surgeries.

Job Description

OEU seeks committed, motivated and dynamic person to join its team in contributing towards elimination of avoidable blindness in Ghana.

Reporting: The position of Finance and Administrative Officer reports to the Country Manager.

Job Purpose:

  • To ensure the maintenance and smooth running of an accurate and up-to-date accounting system

Key Accountabilities:

  • Improve financial reporting, administration, and adding value to operations
  • Getting the basics right with accuracy, reliability and being on top of things
  • Improve financial efficiency

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Budgeting
  • Participate actively in the formulation/ review of Ghana Country Programme Strategy
  • Contribute towards development of OE Ghana annual business plan
  • Prepare Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual work plans and budgets in coordination with Country Manager

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Occasional monitoring of all partner hospitals financial records to ensure they meet OEStandards
  • Production of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual financial reports and annual accounts

Communication

  • Support development of communication material for the Ghana office

Advocacy

  • Working with Head of Office to put in place a system which ensures that all major risks are identified, analysed, mitigated and monitored on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis.
  • Build relationships with partner hospitals and Government agencies and NGOs in OE’s geographic areas of intervention to further OE’s objectives

Working Conditions and Job Requirements

  • Occasional travel to partners’ hospitals and project locations to very financial documents
  • Extended working hours to accommodate head office hours or work
  • Act as an ambassador for OE in a variety of professional and social settings

Required Skills or Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Commerce;
  • At least three (3) years working experience in a similar environment.
