  • Provide resource modeling technical support and leadership for operations, projects and exploration programs with the goal of producing models that deliver predictable outcomes to the business.



  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and the environment and the ability to work safely on a daily basis
  • Resource estimation using both linear and non-linear geostatistical algorithms (e.g. Kriging, Multiple Indicator Kriging and Simulations)
  • Periodic review of ore control parameters and ensure regular updates.
  • Review production drilling data quality and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Monitor end of month reconciliation and provide recommendations for future resource model updates.
  • Coordinate activities between Exploration, Mine Planning and Ore Control and provide technical input when required.
  • Review drill spacing specifications and ensure they meet Newmont’s Resource classification standard. Submit an action plan including cost of drilling to required standard when necessary.
  • Become familiar with and strictly adhere to Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environmental standards. Act as a role model in complying with and supporting these standards and practices.


The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.



  • Will work in mine sites, project sites and greenfields exploration environments where conditions may be primitive and/or harsh at times.
  • Position requires interaction with process metallurgy and mining engineering teams.
  • The position is located at the Ahafo mine site in Ghana.
  • Position may be required to travel to, and assist other domestic sites.




  • A Bachelor or Master’s degree in a mining related field in geology, mining engineering or geostatistics.
  • A proficiency in applied mathematics and a strong background in problem solving and 3D visualization skills.
  • Advanced degree in Geostatistics or equivalent certification.



  • A minimum of 8-10 years of industry experience in the application of technical systems to mining or an equivalent combination of training and experience, including a background in geology, mining engineering or geostatistics.
  • The above experience must include a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Resource modeling. 


Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a strong background in Vulcan or MineSight with demonstrated proficiency in resource modeling required to develop surface or underground resource models.
  • Ability to develop and maintain short term models on a regular basis for forecasting purposes.
  • Strong technical writing ability is required to prepare documentation in support of annual reserve and resource reporting.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to develop new applications, test new technical concepts and methodologies for resource estimation.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, effectively plan, coordinate and complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to review and develop ore control and resource model reports to support reconciliation analysis and validation.
  • Competent person as defined in the SME Guide.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills be able to develop interdisciplinary work teams to complete complex resource modeling efforts.
  • Able to complete advanced modeling studies in support of resource risk assessment.
  • Must be able to train and mentor resource modelers in standard and advanced modeling techniques.
  • Must be able to generate resource models either surface or underground for operations and projects as needed and coordinate necessary activities to achieve Newmont objectives.
  • Strong computer skills in mainstream PC applications such as Excel, Access.
