Overview of the Position

The Market Development Coordinator will oversee and manage the work of the MADE market development (MD) team. This team consists of four market development specialists (one for each of MADE’s core markets) who manage the day to day activities involved in facilitating the implementation of MADE’s portfolio of interventions. The Market Development Coordinator reports to the Team Leader of the MADE programme.



The main responsibilities of the Market Development (MD) Coordinator include the following:


Management of Interventions 

–     Provision of technical guidance to and oversight of the MD team for the design and facilitation of the implementation of MADE’s portfolio of interventions across its core markets.

–     Lead the MD team to build, maintain and manage relationships with prospective and existing core market development partners (private businesses, public agencies and non-governmental organisations) as well as with managing the work of service provider, including consultants and other technical experts.

–     Regularly review progress of interventions with the MD team with the view to assessing whether partnerships and interventions should continue, be adjusted or exited altogether, based on the levels of partner contribution, motivation and ownership, scale and depth of results/outcomes, etc.

–     Continuously monitor trends and developments in core markets and identify new opportunities, interventions and partners for the programme.

–     Development of ToRs for the engagement of external consultants and other service providers and the supervision of the work of these consultants and service providers


Measurement of Interventions (MRM/ Responsibilities) 

–     Lead process of developing (for new interventions) and updating (for existing interventions) results chains and indicators for all interventions.

–     Ensure and oversee use of information generated by MRM system by the MD team to regularly review and assess intervention progress.

–     Ensure MD team actively use MRM system to capture and record intervention progress and programme learning.

–     Coordinate provision of inputs from the MD team for the design and implementation data collection and processing for MRM purposes.


Communications and Reporting

–     Collaborate with the MADE Communications Specialist/team to plan and implement communication activities related to the work of the MD team and relevant MADE external communications events.

–     Collaborate with the MADE Action Research/Knowledge Management Specialist to develop and implement action research and to prepare case studies and other thematic reports.

–     Compile and edit MD components of quarterly and annual reports on programme activities.


Other Responsibilities

Carry out any other MD and/or programme related work that may be assigned to the Coordinator from time to time by the Team Leader.


Candidate profile

We are looking for an experienced consultant with a track record of successfully working with market systems in the development sector. He/she will preferably have:


  • At least 5 years of relevant experience;
  • A Master’s Degree in Development Economics or a related field;
  • A good understanding of the role of market systems in development;
  • Experience or demonstrable interest of working in Sub-Saharan Africa;
  • Experience working in complex and time-pressured contexts;
  • Outstanding English written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and team-work;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent IT skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Visio.
