Job Description

Job Summary/Purpose

  • Responsible for the effective management of the University’s Library services, resources and staff.
  • To ensure a fully functioning library, that meets the needs of all users.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Select, develop, catalogue and classify library resources.
  • Liaise with departmental academic staff, external organizations and suppliers;
  • Ensure that library services meet the needs of users (e.g.  foundation students, undergraduate students, postgraduate students, academic  and professional staff);
  • Prepare, and monitor library department budget;
  • Review, acquire and manage library resources and materials for teaching, research and learning;
  • Develop training workshop schedules and activities for maximum usage of library resources;
  • Support independent research and learning;
  • Assist students and staff to use computer equipment, conduct literature searches etc.
  • Answer user enquiries on library resources.
  • Promote the library’s resources to users;

Required Skills or Experience

  • A Masters’ degree in Library Studies  or related area;
  • A good first degree in Information Studies;
  • Significant relevant work experience in Libraries, preferably in a University setting;
  • Good understanding of modern trends relating to the use and management of Libraries;
  • In depth knowledge of online  library system;
  • Excellent written and oral communication  skills;
  • Excellent influencing skills and the ability to communicate with credibility, tact and diplomacy internally and externally;
  • Ability to guard confidentiality of process and information
