Job Summary:

  • The Gender and Equity Advisor is a full-time position based in Accra.
  • S/he will provide technical support in gender analysis and integration for all aspects of the project, including identification of best practices, program design, implementation, technical resources (e.g., case studies and tools), and evaluation, in line with the GOG.
  • In support of field activities, the Gender and Equity Advisor will provide guidance to team members to ensure that the team is cognizant of the ways in which gender considerations impact the ways in which the team functions and how GSCC approaches its work; including that all team members have a sophisticated understanding of how gender norms, inequalities and stereotypes impact program implementation, and ensuring that activities address the unique needs of men and women of all ages and abilities as well as gender barriers that may impede access to services.
  • The Gender and Equity Advisor may also facilitate and/or prepare local consultants to implement gender-related training, technical assistance, and capacity building.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop/contribute to GSCC workplan and strategy for core- and Mission-funded activities to ensure that gender considerations are identified and programmed for appropriately in activity design and implementation;
  • Help identify best practices in gender integration and gender equality as related to CHSS activities;
  • Build internal capacity to address gender considerations;
  • Coordinate reporting processes on the gender thematic work and document lessons learned from review processes in order to continuously improve the quality of gender work;
  • Work with USAID/Ghana, MOH,  the PEPFAR Gender Technical Working Group as appropriate;
  • Develop or contribute to concept note development in response to field support requests.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Master’s degree in social science especially gender studies, or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years of increasingly responsible professional experience, five at the international level.
  • Extensive experience in research and policy-level analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting gender assessments and analyses.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the USAID Gender Equality and Female Empowerment Policy, and the PEPFAR Gender Strategy.
  • Substantial experience in applying a gender perspective to project design, monitoring and evaluation, and building capacity of others to do so.
  • Experience working with and supporting a wide range of HIV and AIDS projects and programs, such as combination prevention, PMTCT, and VMMC.
  • Leads teams effectively and shows conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Fluency in English language.
