School partnerships advisor

This role is to assist Cambridge Education in implementing Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL), which is a 4 Government of Ghana programme funded by DFID to support pre-service teacher education in Ghana. The main function of the School partnerships advisor is to support colleges of education, and partner schools of the colleges in which trainees are undertaking practicums, to improve the professional experience which trainee teachers gain through the practical elements of their training programme.
Key responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of the content of mentoring materials
  • To provide training to teaching practice coordinators, school principals, circuit supervisors, girls’ education officers and district education officers in the use of the mentoring managers’ materials
  • Support teaching practice coordinators to undertake training of all mentors and school principals which will receive trainees from a college, prior to the trainees arriving, in the use of mentoring materials
  • Support teaching practice coordinators and tutors to present and clarify learning materials to trainees prior to their teaching practice
  • Make ad hoc visits to partner schools to meet with school principals, mentors, and trainees to understand the challenges and issues that they are facing
  • Invite and engage  with district personnel  at partner schools to ensure their oversight and involvement in mentoring
  • Encourage colleges to provide authentic teaching practice opportunities to trainees as early as the first semester of the DBE program, in model and partner schools, so that trainees have opportunities to practice with learners in authentic teaching situations
  • Provide support to tutors in colleges of education  for on-campus  teaching practice and school observations, ensuring best practice and sharing of ideas amongst colleges;
  • Act as a focal point for mentoring and practicums in the colleges and the zones in which they are based
  • Collaborate with and support T-TEL Learning coaches, College Improvement Advisers, and VSO advisers also based in their colleges in order to share learning and best practice across sub-components
  • To prepare regular activity reports on work undertaken, and participate in programme monitoring and evaluation activities as required
Qualifications and experience

  • Educated to post-graduate degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
  • Experience working to support and improve the quality of teaching practicums
  • Teaching, training, and coaching in the context of  basic education in Ghana
  • Experience building and sustaining relationships between schools, post-secondary/tertiary institutions/district administration/non-governmental organisationsKnowledge
  • In-depth knowledge of teaching and learning, school management, and education quality improvement;
  • In depth knowledge of Teaching and Teacher-training pedagogies
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of COEs, the DBE curriculum, and the pre-service training context in GhanaSkills
  • Able to lead and develop professional development, coordinate a range of delivery styles.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills;
  • Independent, ability to use own initiative, ability to be flexible;
  • Competent user of MS Office


  • NB: This job will require frequent travel to colleges of education and their partner schools  in the zone in which the adviser is based.
