Job Description

AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as CONTROL ROOM SUPERINTENDENT


The purpose of this role is to perform skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance, repair, modification, and testing of access control, and security systems hardware and software. Take appropriate actions in case of irregularities or emergencies. Ensure the efficient working of the control room by ensuring that all work is undertaken in compliance with the operating procedures, current legislation, and the codes of practice.


  • Ensure shift occurrences are passed on to the next shift and all system issues are recorded in the shift report
  • Ensure timely escalation of occurrences to solicit the needed support to minimize operational delays
  • Ensure standard report is generated that can be used for overall production efficiency, comparison of mine’s planning and production against the goals of production plan or for production reconciliation
  • Contribute to Mining Department planning meetings as and when required
  • Ensure effective communication between controllers and machine operators.
  • Establish the necessary Control Room processes and practices for the operational readiness of the Obuasi Mine
  • Provide unequivocal planning assumption data to enable the quarterly update plan to be produced on time.
  • Develop the annual cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual, medium term and LoM business plans.
  • Deliver the work of the function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs.
  • Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture across the department and with own team regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development.
  • Responsible and accountable for their team’s environmental obligations and performances by conducting informal meetings with team and reporting any weaknesses in the environmental procedures.
  • Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
  • Provide the resources and expertise to develop the team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, according to their role and level of authority.
  • Rigorously drive implementation of projects and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within the team.
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders (Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, etc.) and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements.



  • BSc / Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Mine Captain’s Certificate of Competency or equivalent.


  • Five (5) to eight (8) years’ operational experience within an underground mining environment of which at least three (3) years is at supervisory level; fleet management system and SCADA application environment
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of fundamental mining method.
  • Underground experience in systems management and applications.
  • Proficient in the use of Mining Software; Interfacing of mining and geological software’s and database for mining operations underground
  • Excellent Communication Skills and excellent Knowledge in computer networking and data management systems
  • Underground WIFI system connectivity, communication, and setup integration.

  • Can lead team-based risk assessments and conduct behavioral based observations.
  • Actively participate in ensuring critical controls are in place and working.
  • Can actively take part in reviewing of safety system elements such as practices / procedures.

  • Understands mining processes and actively contributes in part to delivery of the expected outcome / service the mining processes deliver.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to apply technical skills and/or delivery of a service within mining environment

  • Directly responsible for delivering a production aspect of the works plan.
  • Understands good mining practices, management, support systems, and how each should interact to deliver targeted performance.
  • Understands the contract, the key deliverables, and the processes that are aligned to managing it successfully.
  • Capable of having a direct role in managing an element of the contract management process.
  • Can propose, draft, and analyze potential contract variations and amendments for approval by the contract manager.
