Role Overview


Amec Foster Wheeler is looking for a Senior Project Planner to join our Oil and Gas project delivery operation based in our Ghana office.


The ideal candidate will join a team providing Engineering Services to existing oil production facilities offshore Ghana. “Engineering Services‟ involves a high level of brownfield detailed engineering design and procurement and expediting work, vendor surveillance and management, supervision for fabrication construction support requirements, together with the strict revision control of engineering records; and the direct supply of contracts, labour and materials for modifications.





  • Has expert technical understanding to manage scheduling activities through project set-up, Engineering and Procurement Phases. Has experience of Construction Systems to enable the development of overall project plans for turnover and Commissioning phases. Uses technical understanding to communicate with and influence PCMs, PMs and client.
  • Has an in depth understanding of Amec Foster Wheeler’s business position and commercial objectives, is able to implement recommended improvements to those commercial objectives. Understands and can manage commercial risk. Has a detailed understanding of Amec Foster Wheeler’s contractual obligations and Amec Foster Wheeler’s execution strategy. Understands the effect of change on project schedules. Understands the risks related to the management of construction contracts.
  • Interprets various information relating to the overall project schedule. Assesses scheduled impact and communicates findings to Corporate Operations and Senior Project Management. Works confidently with data to interpret trends, issues and risks, suggests mitigating actions and will ensure that actions to address business needs occur as a result of findings.
  • Ensures that the planning discipline provides timely, concise and accurate reporting to Projects, Departments, Clients and Senior Management. Prepares and maintains project progress reports and forecasts through engineering, procurement and construction phases. Prepares and maintains planning engineer workload plan.
  • Ensures staff execute the planning function in accordance with current policies and procedures. Has knowledge of all planning systems, and optimises their use within projects to solve technical problems and promote effective management of information. Undertakes project audits as requested by Manager, Planning
  • Can explain how they are contributing towards the success of the business and achievement of business goals. Is aware of the impact of Company policy and regulation on their role. Has a solid professional network both within and outside of their immediate discipline. Works to maintain existing network through regular and positive contact.
  • Provides feedback into performance management system. Reviews training needs of subordinates and prepares training plans. Carries out training as required. Prime Responsibilities/Duties


  • Review and understand all relevant documentation pertaining to the project including scope of services, project execution plan, proposal/project schedule (including manpower projection plan), conditions of contract.
  • Work within the standard planning/scheduling procedures. Ensure that these procedures fulfil client requirements and develop additional project specific procedures where necessary.
  • Prepare activity plans to accomplish all work required by the procedures and to ensure that sufficient planning resources are provided.
  • Direct and control the work of all Planning Engineers assigned to the project.
  • Assist Manager, Planning with performance appraisals of assigned Planning Engineers.
  • Liaise with Client Project Control personnel as necessary.
  • Timely preparation and issue of:-

    o Overall Project Schedule Level 1 o Project Schedule Level 2 o Project Network Level 3 o Schedule Basis Memorandum (SBM) o Manpower Projection Plan o Critical Equipment Lists/Schedules o Progress ‘S’ Curves and tabulations o Manhour/Manpower histograms o Short-term look ahead schedules o Monthly progress report including narrative

  • Ensure that all involved parties participate in preparation of items described above and that they agree to their respective elements and approve documents where necessary.
  • Produce current physical progress reports and final job statistics.
  • Prepare and issue project action reports to Project Manager/Project Control Manager.
  • Maintain accurate schedule and control curves in an updated condition.
  • Analyse schedule trends and produce regular forecasts of schedule performance and issues for project review.
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of relevant systems operated by other departments.

  • B.S. or equivalent Degree Engineering, with ten   (10) years’ experience in planning and scheduling of relevant projects in Oil & Gas industry.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in supervising, performing and presenting cost control and analysis, schedule development, control and analysis and overall project reporting activities. Skilled in oral and written communication with demonstrated skill to present planning & scheduling and cost information to management. Extensive experience on usage of Primavera (P6) and MS Project.
  • Knowledge of general contracts issues, Design issues, standards, codes, specifications, yard fabrication methods, offshore construction operations, Oil & Gas operations and commissioning activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent technical team and interpersonal skills.
  • Cultural awareness and experience working in developing country
