Brief Company Profile

AEL Mining Services is a leading developer, producer and supplier of commercial explosives, initiating systems and blasting services for mining, quarrying and construction markets in Africa and beyond. AEL Mining Services is a Division of AECI Ghana Limited, and a subsidiary of AECI Limited, listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

The principal accountabilities of the successful applicant will include:

  1. To ensure withholding taxes are accurately applied on supplier invoices as per GRA requirement in SAP B1
  2. To ensure accurate capture of VAT input in SAP B1 and ensure all VAT Inputs are properly supported by original VAT invoices
  3. To undertake accurate and timely submission of statutory returns (e.g. WHT, VAT, etc) to governmental agencies and bodies  to ensure fulfillment of company and legal obligations
  4. To assist in ensuring application for refunds of duties paid are done timeously and followed up to ensure receipt of duty refund within the period stipulated by GRA.
  5. To manage and reconcile accounts of suppliers and report on creditors age analysis so as to conform to approved requirements
  6. To assist in the preparation and monitoring of balance sheet reconciliations on regular basis to ensure compliance with company and legal requirements
  7. To assist in external and internal audit processes to meet statutory and group requirements
  8. To assist in establishing and monitoring the implementation and maintenance of accounting control procedures to ensure compliance with company and legal requirements
  9. To assist in ensuring accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close in line with company requirements
  10. To fully relieve the payable clerk(s) and accountant(s) as and when necessary to ensure continuous business operations.
  11. To assist the Financial Manager in preparing and maintaining appropriate management reports as required to facilitate decision making processes by AEL finance team and management

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum of a Diploma or equivalent qualification in Finance, Accounting or relevant
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in taxation, finance or accounting.
  • Professional accounting certification (at least at stage/level 2 of the ACCA/ ICA qualification process)
  • Good working knowledge of acceptable accounting principles, practices, & international  standards
  • Good working knowledge of audit practices and principles
  • Good working knowledge of relevant regulations and applicable laws
  • Knowledge in Accounts reconciliation techniques and ability to communicate effectively with customers to clarify issues
  • Computer literate and proficiency in MS Office especially in advanced Excel,
  • Working knowledge of relevant accounting software necessary to perform job (e.g. SAP B1, Pastel, etc)
  • Good report writing skills
  • Good supervisory skills, good team player, good interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written) up to all levels within company
  • Maximising performance / drive for results
  • Highly analytical and high attention to detail
