Job Description

The multi-year Ghana Poultry Program (GPP) has been awarded to ACDI/VOCA by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) with a goal to increase the competitiveness of domestic production and processing of poultry meat and eggs. This increase is expected to expand end-market “pull” opportunities for maize and soya production, supporting USAID
Feed the Future objectives to raise income and employment for smallholder producers. GPP’s strategy is focused on catalyzing efficiencies at key stages of the poultry value chain in order to reduce Ghana’s dependence on imported poultry meat (currently estimated at over 90 percent of poultry meat consumption, improve profitability of egg production, expand national and regional trade and sustainably and equitably increase incomes of male and female producers in poultry, grains, and related value chains.


  • Facilitates the development of a firm’s technical and managerial capacity to improve its profitability and increasingly receive operational and investment financing from the formal financial sector.
  • Encourages inter-firm relationships and the development of service markets that enhance value chain, performance between and among businesses “and their ‘trading partners.
  • Facilitates the development of contracting techniques to more effectively address the collateral requirements of formal lending institutions.
  • Monitors the performance of participating GPP client-enterprises and documents all changes (both qualitatively and quantitatively) in line with the GPP M&E framework and guidelines.
  • Identifies and helps mobilize Short Term Technical Assistance to address financial management/ enterprise development needs, both sector-wide and for individual enterprises.
  • Assists in the dissemination of results and recommendations to beneficiaries and partner groups.
  • Incorporates GPP gender mainstreaming and environmental management plans into daily operations

Required Skills or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, agriculture or a related field from a recognized university. Master’s Degree (MBA) in financial management, finance, agribusiness development, desirable.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in a management position, providing business development, banking/financial services to the private sector.
  • Proven ability to develop business competitiveness strategies, train, and advise business on how to grow and strategically invest.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and judgment.
  • Proven willingness to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and in a, team environment, in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and deadline pressures.
