Disseminating Innovative Resources and Technologies (DIRTS) Project Internship, Tamale, Ghana

IPA Ghana is looking to hire one intern starting in January to help support the DIRTS project plan and launch their annual survey. The lead researcher on this project are Dean Karlan and Christopher Udry from Yale University. The project has almost completed two years of program implementation and will conduct a large annual survey, including 3240 households in Northern Region of Ghana during the first quarter of 2016. The intern will work closely with the Research Coordinator to support all planning process, logistics and data management for the upcoming fieldwork. In particular, the intern will help program the questionnaire into Survey CTO, and manage high frequency checks on the incoming data during the survey. The intern may also be involved in training field staff on survey tools and digital data collection devices, observing surveys and monitoring data quality, and systematically documenting data irregularities. If the intern is able to stay for 6 months, they will also support the team prepare and launch a bi-weekly labour survey which targets the same set of households and is conducted during the entire farming season, from April through November.

Qualifications

  • Quantitative training, including econometrics – for example: undergraduate or graduate studies in economics or other field with technical component
  • Knowledge of Stata (required)
  • Knowledge of Survey CTO or other Android based programming software (preferred)
  • Self-starter, resourceful and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies
  • Ability to understand and consistently work towards achieving the highest quality data analysis and documenting steps taken
  • Eager to learn, and gain experience in a fast paced organization
  • Familiarity with randomized controlled trials is a plus
  • Strong oral and written English communications skills
