Job Description

  • Start Date: August 1, 2016
  • End Date:  July 31, 2018

Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)  
Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Regional Head of Learning and Development will offer strategic advice and support to Her Majesty’s Government in British High Commissions and Embassies in Africa to meet organisational needs, aligned with UK government priorities through the delivery of the global Learning and Development Strategy for Africa which includes:

  • Management of the Regional Learning and Development team providing leadership and support
  • Provide strategic direction and advice on Organisational Development to stakeholders within the Africa region
  • Help teams identify performance needs, work based learning (informal and formal learning) and Learning and Development interventions to support needs
  • Deliver high quality, value for money, appropriate Learning and Development initiatives, making good use of virtual technology and innovative new delivery methods
  • Evaluate effectiveness of initiatives to build capability and develop a learning culture at High Commissions and Embassies in Africa
  • Some duty travel within the region will be required and possible travel outside Africa to the UK for conferences

Required Skills or Experience

  • Min 10 years in a L&D environment either public or private sector
  • Min 5 years leadership and management experience
  • Experience of working in a  multi cultural environment
  • Strong communicator and facilitator
  • Able to travel extensively  across Africa and occasionally other regions
  • Professional qualifications in Learning and Development or equivalent
  • A passion and enthusiasm for developing people

Language requirements: English with additional preference to French and Portuguese or any other frequently spoken Africa languages
